Today we began in Louisiana, visited New Orleans, then traveled through Mississippi and Alabama before finally reaching Florida (though we still have more than close to 500 miles to go!); we also suffered the very worst wet weather ever seen – twice! Crazy rain, continuous lightning, and thunder so close to be heard even over the noise of the crashing rain on the car!
After yesterday not driving at all, we covered 460 miles today from San Antonio to Lafayette, including a visit to Galveston and the Gulf of Mexico (the first ocean we’ve seen since Malibu!)

Another longer drive today, of about 460 miles, taking us from San Antonio, down past Houston to Galveston, across the (free!) ferry and on in to Louisiana, industrial-looking Lake Charles and stopping overnight in Lafayette, where we just had an excellent dinner 🙂
