Spain 2026: Cordoba

A fast and comfortable train ride took us from Seville to Cordoba with an easy start exploring the narrow streets of the city, and the “Roman Bridge“; while much of the bridge is more recent I might imagine that some parts of it date back almost 2000 years …

Next morning we visited another “Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos” though sadly this one only the gardens were open due to renovation/construction …

Next morning we visited the fascinating “Mosque-Cathedral Monumental Site of Córdoba” where an older mosque was taken over and converted to christianity without destroying all that was there before (and my photos lean more toward the older mosque styling!)

Spain 2026: Seville

Our second visit to Spain this year had us flying in to Madrid and getting a train to Seville, arriving at our hotel in the evening with rooftop views of the city including “Setas de Sevilla” and “Catedral de Sevilla” which we will be visiting …

We began with a “Red Bus” open-top bus tour around the city (including going under “the mushroom”, then returned to the spectacular “Plaza de España“.

Here are photos of Plaza de España, I loved this space which is “modern” by Spanish standard being less than 100 years old!

After lunch we headed to “Catedral de Sevilla” where we climbed 34 ramps to the top of a tower for more views, then explored the interior, including the tomb of “Christopher Colon” (Christopher Columbus) …

Another day, and we visited the “Royal Alcázar of Seville” palace and gardens, another beautiful place “… the oldest royal palace in Europe still in use … where history and art have intertwined since the 11th century …”

We also visited “Iglesia Colegial del Divino Salvador” with a LOT of wealth on excessive display!

In the evening we visited “Setas de Sevilla” (the mushroom) which is beautifully and animatedly lit at night.

Next day we had a guided tour out to “Archaeological Ensemble of Itálica“, Roman ruins of “the first Roman city founded on the Iberian Peninsula” founded 206 BC!

There are ruins of a huge roman amphitheater which originally was twice the height it is today with an estimated capacity of 25,000!
