New Car Pickup

Finally, the new MINI Cooper convertible arrived at MINI of Peabody …
Finally, the CO (Certificate of Origin) arrived so that the car could be registered …
Finally, the car was ready for pickup … And the new owner arrived to check it out – congratulations Debbie!

Originally the car was supposed to be ready for pickup at the Spring Rally, but it seemed for a while that everything was against pickup EVER happening … I’m not even going to mention what happened to Debbie & Joe yesterday!

But now, all that’s in the past, and there is a very happy MINI owner with her new MINI – And as we watched, Debbie drove off (sadly not into the sunset – so the roof had to stay up)

One Lap Of America

Local MINI owners and friends David & Joe are heading off this week in Davids MINI to participate in One Lap Of America:

They are being sponsored by MINI of Peabody and by Oxford Motorsports and will be raising money to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

To allow us “at-home” MINI owners to participate in their fun, they have set up a website which will be updated during the event – see http://www.sooper.us/.

Good luck to David & Joe – I’ll be watching 🙂

Click “YES” and it’s all gone :(

So what happens if you aren’t paying attention and accidentally click “YES” to the wrong question … in this particular case the question was along the lines of “are you sure you want to delete when there’s not enough room in the recycle bin”.
I was reviewing the setup on my PC to allow my new portable to get access to all my data – I started copying the relevant data (Outlook files, etc) to the shared folder, then realized it wasn’t copying but moving them. Wrong – so I aborted and (error) deleted the files – I should have done an “undo move” but I didn’t, and clicked “YES” before realizing what I’d done.

OK. No problem. That’s what my USB backup drive is for.
Or not.
It apparently doesn’t contain the really useful backup data, like my Outlook files 😦
I think maybe the Google desktop keeps the Outlook files open, so they don’t get backed up!

So anyway.
I’ve now lost the last ten years email archives. Unless I can find any ancient CD backups (which I think I trashed after buying the USB backup drive).
Lesson One: Read and read again those Windows messages that you always just click “YES” to. One day, it’ll be the wrong message.
Lesson Two: Don’t trust the USB backup drive and/or the NH Backup program 😦

Thankfully, Google Desktop Search has cached loads of my data, so I can cut / paste the really important stuff (if anyone knows how to dump/export the Google cache to files, please let me know).

Thankfully too, I have the MINIsOnTop database backed up in multiple places.

If anyone’s expecting me to contact them (for example, when the MINI circuit is in stock again), please remind me because I might not know any more.
