Connecticut – Mystic & Casinos!

Just back from a weekend in Connecticut; we drove down Friday and stayed in a spectacular inn near Mystic and the Foxwoods casino:

We toured “Old Mystic Village” (which is really just a glorified outdoor shopping mall), then we headed into Mystic proper, and I spent some time watching the lift bridge operating:

Nearby are two casinos, Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun; both are impressive to look at from outside; our trip was primarily so that Margaret could watch a boxing match at Foxwoods!

England – Margarets parents 50th wedding anniversary

Back late last night from a trip to England to join in with the celebrations of Margarets parents 50th wedding anniversary! The trip was fun; although we were only away a week, as well as seeing all Margarets family we visited my grandparents and saw my Dad (went with him to visit John Cooper Works too!).

An unexpected visit to Washington DC

Flying back from Florida, we got as far as Washington DC then learned that Boston airport was snowed in and we could get no further – there was some snow in Washington, but further north was a serious storm! We decided to rent a car and tour the U.S. Capital, but we were dressed for Florida, not winter!

We also were unprepared for the confusing roads and heavy traffic, but we finally found parking at Arlington Cemetry:

From Arlington we took a trolley tour bus into the city – it avoided traffic and kept us warm (and took us to the Smithsonian Museums too):

We remained stranded for a couple of days, and visited Fort Washington and Delaware! Eventually Boston airport was cleared enough for us to fly home – of course when we got home, there was snow everywhere!
