Arrival!

I spent half the day at MINI Peabody, waiting for GBMINI#3 to arrive. The truck driver had been told someone was waiting, so changed his route to deliver to MINI Peabody first, arriving around 12:30pm – and there is GBMINI#3, waiting patiently behind two convertibles, ready to be driven off …

Unfortunately the truck decides to spray hydraulic oil from the rear door lift mechanism, and all the cars are forced to wait while a clear-up operation occurs … the driver calls for a repair, and finally it is time for GBMINI#3 to come off the truck:

And finally GBMINI#3 is with it’s (im)patient owner! The red/red interior does not disappoint, and I think I like the chrome mirrors:

After giving a list of modifications to Gary, I had to leave GBMINI#3 and return to work … I don’t think I will be able to pick it up until at least Monday next week …

  1. Ian,
A nice car, the interior is great.
We all will enjoy seeing it at the
    next tour.
    Al.

  2. Jared,
I think that is correct – but I lose track. The MC already has the chrome grille, so it presumably needs something else to justify the package. The convertibles chrome exterior package is different again!

  3. It’s beautiful! Perfect MINI colors (red / black roof). Nothing more needs to be said!

  4. Ian, congrats once again! I ordered mine a week or so ago, but won’t take delivery ’til June 1. Mine really is just about the spitting image of your new one; I added the red/black seats to go with the red interior on Tuesday (order change #1). I’m glad to see they look so good! I was uncertain how the difference in colors would turn out…

    Man, I’m so damn anxious… 🙂

  5. Congratulations go out to you in what is probably the quickest order/receipt of a Mini that I ever heard of. I wasn’t sure when you first mentioned that you were getting the red interior how it would look, but let me just say I am jealous. I look forward to seeing GBMini#3 at MOT this year. Do you think you got special privileges because you’re such an Iconic Mini owner? =)

  6. Ryan,
I don’t think so – except that MINI Peabody found me the soonest available manufacturing slot so that I ordered on Feb 2, and it was built by the 16th.
FineMedic on the NAM February build thread posted that he ordered on Jan 29 and it arrived at the dealership yesterday – and his MINI went via Charleston which is a few days extra boat ride.

  7. I was at the dealership until about 10:15 and saw Ian there, like a kid on Xmas morning. Unfortunately I had to leave before his new baby showed up.

    Very happy for you Ian!

  8. Congrats Ian: He’s a cute lil bugger. GB MINI 2 was my fav MINI of all time and I really was suprised when you opted for GB MINI 3. I have a large picture of GB MINI 2 over my desk and I love that car and the stories about it.I was really suprised that you didn’t keep him. (sob, sniff) I hope he gets an owner that loves him as much as you did…
Good luck with GB MINI 3. See you soon at an upcoming get together or rally! yellocooper

  9. hey Ian, she’s a beaut! That interior really pops….sigh, it’s so nice to a MINI w/ a shine in the middle of winter…..

  10. Hi Ian,

    Congrats! GBMINI#3 looks terrific.

I assume that you’ve now taken deliver. If so, how does the automatic feel so far? Is it everything you were expecting it to be?

I love the colors you chose for the car. It’s fantastic!

  11. Hey Ian,
Congrats! Great looking car, I love the red/black roof combo with the FDTN interior. A little disconcerting to see them driven off the truck when I first saw it, as they bounce over the little wells intended to hold the cars in place while in transit — not a lot of suspension play with those shipping spacers in the springs! 🙂

    Congrats again!
