MINIs at the Hyatt Regency, Monterey

When Margaret & I woke this morning, there was some truck noise outside – when we headed for breakfast, I suddenly noticed the silvery bumper inserts of a GP on the back of one of the trucks, a vehicle transporter! Rushed back to the room and grabbed my camera:

Unloaded already was a big collection of MINIs, including one set up as “MINI Mobile Assistance” and obviously ready for MINI Takes The States next week; and a seriously tricked out, with fancy wheels, aero kit with silver grille (not seen that before!) and John Cooper Works carbon fiber rear spoiler:

I took loads of pictures of the GP on the truck and as it was being unloaded, but then I was spotted! Steve from MINI USA had a friendly chat with me and persuaded me to not post the pictures … UPDATE: but now that the event is finished, there’s are the pictures I took:

Arrived

Cool already at 4pm – bring sweaters! No MINIs yet.

The hotel is “adequate”, to my mind its room rate is not justified – who ever heard of a $250+/night hotel with no air conditioning!? And I have to pay $10 for Internet on top!
Apart from that, the room is comfortable and spacious, and the food tonight in the bar/cafe was good.

Tomorrow, we’ll have a tour of the area, then Thursday the “big event” begins 🙂

Packed and ready to go!

Tomorrow morning Margaret & I fly to Monterey, CA to enjoy a couple of days vacation before picking up GP #0203, and then hitting the road on MINI Takes The States!
I’ve packed – I found “chili red” and a “thunder blue” luggage, and I’m also accompanied by Quack Quack Jack:

Quack Quack Jack is a tribute to Ed Smith, a friend to all including so many people worldwide in the MINI community – and QQJ has travelled the world over the last year – he just got back from a trip to Alaska! Now he will travel coast to coast on MINI Takes The States.

QQJ has his own travel booklet – hopefully MINI owners across the country will leave messages for others to read; just find me and QQJ!x
