Can I really say this on the GBMINI weblog?
First, I love my MINI – great fun to drive, great bunch of friends on MINI2 and elsewhere, great dealership and people at MINI Peabody, etc.
But the Lapis Leather in my MINI Cooper S has never looked as good as the leatherette in my first MINI Cooper, and today I noticed that not only is it very wrinkled but it has actually worn away on the edge of the drivers seat!
I will talk to MINI Peabody next week to see if they can/will do something about it – after just over one year and only 14,000 miles, I don’t think the seats should be worn like this.
I had the same problem with my drivers seat with the lapis, they replaced the back cover under warranty when I showed them the wear spot. by the way mine was worn worse then your picture.

Bobbie,
Thanks – I am just raising the issue early I guess π
I heard from someone else too with similar but worse wear on their driver seat π¦
What kind of leather does Mini Use? Is it different on different models?
Is the leatherette less comfortable than leather?
Does it get hotter than leather? Which do you prefer?
sorry for multi-messages…What happened when you took GBMini to Peabody to have leather checked? Were they willing to replace?
Brian,
MINI Peabody did replace the back part of the driver side leather seat cover. They did not replace the whole seat, so I now have a new looking piece and it makes the rest of the seat look very worn π¦
I don’t think the leather is different on the MC/MCS. I had leatherette on my MC, before the MCS, and would choose it again as it holds up better, looks just as good as leather and is just as comfortable.
The only thing is if you need the lumbar adjustment, which only comes with “real” leather.
