BMWCCA ADSS video

At the recent BMWCCA ADSS I had a camcorder filming both inside and outside the car. Unfortunately I don’t have the video editing skills needed to put pictures to music, etc (for that, I get help from Keith at MINI Peabody).

Anyway. here is my drive of the track, with Peter (instructor and MINI owner) giving me excellent advice on how to improve, which I am clearly taking no notice of – too busy concentrating!

  1. Woo hoo..! I won! I won!…!! 😉
Maybe it’s the rear sway bar Ian, or just maybe it’s because I did the ADSS last year too..!
Nice video, thanks. I didn’t notice that 3 series in front of me nearly lose when I was driving.

  2. Glad you did not notice the car in front – you were busy!
When you listen to Peter trying to instruct me, he kept suggesting I brake before the turn to set up the car … watching your driving you can see the brake lights come on early so I think that is another reason you did better – you just drive the course better!
Thanks again for encouraging me to attend; I don’t think I would have gone without you being there too.

  3. What kind of setup did you use to for your camera for the in the car shots? I’ve been trying to figure out a good way to get some in-car shots myself, and besides buying the expensive rig, I can’t figure out something good…
    Erik…

  4. Don’t have the editing skills? That’s because you don’t have a Mac. 🙂

  5. Actually that was cooler without a soundtrack…getting to hear the instructor as you were driving.
You don’t use the rearview, right? Maybe next time you could take it off. It twists about 45 or 90 degrees to one direction and to get it on you just put it back at that angle and twist it back.

  6. Erik,
I bought a “Universal Camera Mount” from MINI PILO but I am not sure if they sell it now. But then we adapted it anyway – we cut/drilled a new bar that goes across both rear headrests, and is strapped down. The camcorder mounts to it with the fitting from the MINI PILO product.
    Jared,
Thanks – I will try to remember about the rearview mirror.
