The MINI USA web site still reports GBMINI as “scheduled for production” but 1-866-ASK-MINI says “your vehicle is in the paint shop” π
I wonder if it is for the red or black?

Just noticed you didn’t get the exterior chrome package…quite surprising! If I did it again I would get that, I like it around the fogs.
I did, Jared … it’s just the pic is not accurate (the back view omits the chrome boot handle too) – note the grille is chrome.
Ahh…I thought maybe you could get the chrome grill but not the rest of it. Cool then. =)
Same thing happened to me Ian. The next day (after Paintshop) I was done. 2 days later (I got lucky and the stars aligned) I was on a boat. Tomorrow I land in SC.
Speaking of the chrome exterior and paint. What color are the mirrors underneath your chrome caps? Are they red or black? I ask because I have a white top, with the chrome exterior, but I am playing with the idea of liking the white (match the roof) look for the mirrors. Any idea if I would just take the chrome ones off and have white paint underneath, or will I have to buy white caps?
I don’t know what is under the chrome mirrors – I always imagined “nothing”, ie: the whole exterior housing is either a white, black, body color or chrome part.
Correct. There is no room to have both on there. It is either black, white, or chrome. I bought black ones from someone who replaced his with chrome and they are all replacements.
I’m not sure I like the chrome mirrors; I do like black with white stripes/roof though.
I am also unsure about the chrome mirrors – but I do like all the other chrome so hopefully the mirrors will look OK too. If not I guess I will also be buying some different mirror covers!
There is nothing under the mirror caps, but an ugly balck housing. If you look at MINI2 how to on changing mirror covers, you will see the housing. I have done this a few times and it is not difficult to change them.
Al on the cape.
I have the chrome mirror caps on my ’05 MCS. I really like them. However, they are a B**ch to keep clean. So, they look great when clean and shiny, but not so great when they are dirty, salty (from roads/snow, etc) and who knows what else.
But, Ian, you are clearly someone who keeps their car quite clean, so likely won’t be as much an issue. Enjoy and congrats on the latest Mini.
You just have to be really careful when taking the old ones off…the tabs are easily breakable if you aren’t careful. Will make selling them pretty tough. π
Well Ian if you don’t like the chrome I was going to suggest we could work something out for my old white ones but I just realized you got a black top!! No matter what Steve says, CR/B is *NOT* the fastest color combo out there! White stripes might look good though.
Ian,
Man! At this rate you’re going to have your car before me. *GRIN* I’ve been waiting 5 months for my replacement MCS to arrive and I still don’t have it. However, I believe that the boat carrying the car docked in P.H. on the 15th, so it shouldn’t be too much longer now. You East Coast guys are really lucky. My car completed production on January 9th and It’s still not here. That trip through the Panama Canal takes FOREVER!
Jared,
I believe that only the regular Coopers with the exterior chrome package get the chrome around the fog lights (and in the front bumper too). The Cooper “S” MINIs don’t get that part.
