Finally …

… I reached 1250 miles tonight! Run-in miles officially over (though they were unofficially over at various times last Sunday).
Interesting to read what Carnuts Garage has to say about run-in miles:
… Once the break-in period is over, it is not a signal for “anything goes”. Gradually increase your RPM limit over the next thousand miles or so …

Yeah, well …

I have filled GBMINI#3 four times now, with calculated MPGs of 27.8, 24.8, 23.7 and 25.6; an overall average of 25.56.
This is about as low as my worst MPG on GBMINI#2 (and that was with the 210hp JCW upgrade!)
Obviously the automatic transmission has a significant effect on miles-per-gallon (some people claim it also hurts “smiles-per-gallon”!)

  1. Ian,

Watch out. Now the fun begins. Don’t do what I do and get careless…… 53 in a 30.

  2. Actually I was doing 45+ in a 30 coming home tonight, but so were the cars in front, and no-one stopped me to complain.
But I was thinking “stupidly low speed limits” while driving home … I was also thinking “why do these cars in front keep slowing down for corners” πŸ˜‰

  3. Ian, my mileage I has never been above 22-23, except when I brought the car from Florida when it hit about 27 according to the onboard but upon using a calculator it was really about 26.5.

Any further problems with the Service Engine light? Next week it’s deal with Assael BMW on, cracked windshield two, sun roof rattle, rear tire wear, E brake and now the hatch cover is starting to rattle and creak again. I think it’s getting closer to AIRMINI 2.

    Site stuff…………………………….

I was getting a separate window when ever I went to comments now that is gone and now I get, don’t know the technical word for it, the main page just refreshing into comments? I like much better.

  4. Aren’t those speed limit signs merely suggestions? That’s generally how I look to them. Unrealistic suggestions at that!

  5. My mileage has only been in the high 20s when ever I am on a road trip… I am close to my first scheduled service @ 11,500, so maybe some clean oil and a new filter will boost that.

Does anyone else have a slighlty vibrating steering wheel at speeds of about 50 – 65 MPH? I thought it was my alignment because one the driver tire was starting to wear badly. BMW re-aligned it, but I still get the vibration…. I am pretty sure it was not there before…

  6. Richard,

I had that from 65-85 but mine was a bad front rim, pothole. One of the few things Assael, here in Ca, actually got right.

  7. Robert,
    AIRMINI 2 – go for it πŸ˜‰
The SES has not come on again yet but based on the MINI memo, it probably will …
Thanks about the site/comments stuff; been avoiding doing it this way in case everything broke, but it seems to be working OK.

    Richard,
No steering vibration on any GBMINI for me; possible the mis-alignment “damage” on the tire now means the tire itself is the problem, or maybe the wheel needs re-balancing to compensate for the uneven wear?
