Tonight I spied a couple of “checkmate” MINIs at MINI Peabody (see here and here on MotoringFile) … unfortunately it was already dark and I could not get many decent pics – but here is a sample:

Hm. The horseshoes don’t look quite so ridiculous from that angle… 🙂
I have to agree as my first look at them I thought UGH!
I know no one agrees with me but I like the horseshoes..actually they don’t look as good to me from that angle as the promo shots. I think it’s the extra depth as they get towards the outter rim.
I really did not much like the new wheels; I hope the new owners do though!
I’m with you Ian… not a fan at all of those wheels. And I could do without that font they chose for “Checkmate”. For the love of God the least they could have done was use Frutiger or something…
I wouldn’t buy those rims but I think there better that I first thought. They look heavy like the S Lites.
Hum Frutiger…..nice, overused but nice. Maybe a Schindler Medium or a CityD for my tastes.
I saw one of the new 18″ JCW wheels in black at my dealer earlier this week and I don’t care for them.
I just took delivery of a Mini Cooper Checkmate on Thursday, complete with a second set of alloy wheels with winter tyres and an iPod interface. I’m already totally in love with this car — I’ve never had so much fun in a vehicle in years, maybe not even on a motorcycle. And the Checkmate design is simply drop-dead gorgeous, inside and out. Wow!!!
