I was contacted today by NewsLand, asking to include my GBMINI weblog in their Personal Media Service …
We would like to deliver your daily updates to PDA and Smartphone users so that people could read about their mini right in the car
Our service is absolutely free to users!
We do not edit any of your information, providing it as it is: texts, pictures, links and hyperlinks remain the same.
We keep copyright information and the link to the source with the text.
And no additional effort on your part required, we take care of all technical issues!
Seems OK, so I said “yes” …
Does anyone know anything more about this, or similar, services?
Yeah got that as well. Flooding the market?
Gabe, did you agree to the service?
No. I only skimmed the email and since it’s obviously a form letter it goes straight into my junk folder 🙂
I thought that too Gabe, but I replied with questions and got sensible “non-form” answers …
Future News Story:
“MOTORIST MAIMED BY MOBILE MEDIA”
While driving the PCH, MINI motorist Reggie Purpendunker lost control of his vehicle while reading text of the adventures of a popular MINI GP enthusiast on his cell phone. “I was distracted by this Cull guy’s MINI GP blog.” Reggie explained from his hospital bed.
Reggie, a once svelt 6’1″ 160 Olympic swimmer, is now quite literally twice his former size. “The steering wheel punctured my chest before the air bag went off. It’s terribly painfull”, he remarked, “and they can’t deflate the bag or I’ll die!”.
Asked about his future plans, Reggie explains: “When I get out of the hospital, I’m going to earn enough money as a floating Lifeguard to pay my way to Massachusetts. Then I’m going to find that guy Cull and shove a #$(*&^% up his rosey ^%$#@+*!”
So far I’ve only just started using Newsland (www.newsland.net), but I have to say that my first impression is phenominal. Compared to AvantGo, the content isn’t as mainstream (No major news networks like CNN, etc) however there is a very good selection of content to choose from. It doesn’t appear to have the ability to download arbitrary web sites or RSS feeds either. Hopefully that will change. From a technology perspective Newsland blows AvantGo out of the water. With AvantGo, it takes me upwards of 10 minutes to syncronize two channels, it is horribly slow, and I run into stability problems galore. Newsland on the other hand is simple and responsive, and I just downloaded 22 (Yes, Twenty two) channels in just over a minute. It’s too early to verify overall stability but so far I’m highly impressed. If Newsland can incorporate RSS feeds and user-defined web pages in addition to their existing content, then they will have an undisputable AvantGo killer on their lands.
