I picked up GPMINI today, after a week at Sublime Restorations to have “paint protection” installed (stone chip protection); Julian also removed the airbag warnings from the sunvisors (getting ever more difficult to do!), and replaced the stone-chipped windshield (with a PPG version – so I’ll see if it is any different to the factory glass).
Some pics of the paint protection – the hood piece is basically the standard MCS piece but with extra cutting around the GP decal, but the front bumper was all custom cut …
Since I drove to work in GBMINI, then picked up GPMINI, I also had a chance to take pictures of both cars side-by-side:
When I got home from Boston with my daughter’s car it had some sort of that stuff on it put on by MOP, I tjink. Not sure if it was the same but we both decided to take it off… we felt it looked odd.
It turned out great, Ian. It doesn’t seem to be easily visible on the thunder blue, except from the extreme side angle pic.
I just ordered some space blue touch up paint today, our new mini has a big chip in the front after less than a week! The clear bra is your only defense.
So, looks nice, Ian! What product was installed? Did they use 3M or VentureShield? How did the foglight area turn out? Can you do a close-up of that?
I know ArmorGlove/ArmorShield/Venture Shield do have a template now. But, I feel it could be improved to offer more coverage.
Just looking for feedback, etc….most especially for my GP.
Peter, I tried to take a couple more pictures but it’s really hard – see here for what I did get!
This work on GPMINI was a very special deal, hand cut from I believe 3M material.
There’s a NAM discussion which includes this post showing GP templates from a NAM sponsor
There doesn’t seem to be any protection at all on the brake cooling duct (non-fog light) area. Just around it. Is that right?
Correct – I think the thinking is that as plastic (not metal) it won’t rust if chipped
That’s true, natch, but the paint will chip if hit, and that area is low. I will have mine done.
I think this is a bigger issue for you Snowsville folk. I have never seen that stuff out here nor have I talked to anyone out here that wanted it. I guess I might get it if I lived back there. It looks like the did a magnificent installation job. I know how tricky that can be as I just spent a day giving LTZMTOR new stripes.
