Our drive home from Philadelphia

This is what we had to drive home in yesterday (430 miles total airport to airport, then a taxi home):

A “Jeep Grand Cherokee”, though there’s not much grand about it! First thing that happened when I climbed up and in to it was I hit my knee on the dash – for such a huge vehicle, there’s not much room in it … worse still when Margaret drove partway home, she had to be so close to the wheel to reach the pedals (and you can’t lower the seat) that her knees were on the dash under the wheel. I’d have hated to see the airbags go off while she was driving 😦

Driving highway the whole way, with very little traffic except near the George Washington bridge in New York, and not exceeding 80, the car managed 18mpg according to its trip display – Wow!
What bothered me most though was it’s handling … of course it’s nothing like a MINI, but driving a couple of on-ramps at nothing like MINI speeds, it still seemed to lose touch with the ground and “lurch” sideways when there was a bump in the curve. Very disconcerting.
Of course it did take all our luggage – but so would the MINI since there’s only two of us.

Happily, I am now back in GBMINI, waiting for me when we got home last night – and many thanks Pat & Dave for clearing our driveway & paths πŸ™‚

  1. That last pic looks like a scanned-in post card! Wow.
I can’t believe how much they ripped you off for that horrible Jeep. I hope there’s some recourse.

  2. It was a really nice place, Josh – and the new camera helps me take (some) much nicer pics!
I love how you can see the depth of field, polarizer effect, etc so clearly through the viewfinder. I always thought the electronic version was better, showing what the camera actually sees – but now I’ve learned how much it doesn’t show you; I guess there’s simply not enough resolution in that tiny LCD.

  3. While you were having fun in a TRUCK with no interior space unless you are cargo, the NEMO “One Lap of Plymouth County” event went on without you two and you missed a small crowd but a quality crowd! Two MINI’s and one Mini. Six people came. Not a good showing, but there was a great breakfast at Plane Jane’s. The Duck and Goose were both fed the leftover bread. A 71 mile run through Plymouth County, sneaking over the Sagamore Bridge along the Cape Cod Canal and back over the Bourne Bridge. (actually that was in Barnstable county, but it made a good drive) and then to Dave’s Diner in Middleboro for lunch. Barbara made 3″ long chocolate three dimensional MINI’s and gave them out. The sun was shining all the way.

But, due to the wonders of US Airways, you returned home in a JEEP Truck with a live rear axle (hence the hopping on corners) with a suspension as sophisticated as a late-model oxen cart! It must have made you appreciate getting back into something with a real suspension, designed for the roads instead of the Rubicon Trail at 2 mph.

    Cheers!

  4. US vehicles are in a sad state. WTF are they thinking?

Very nice pics. The wife and I are going to take a vacation soon Kittie liked the pics so maybe there.

Any Shirts yet? Another special box is coming also, next week. =;¬)
