I bet you still have to wear a helmet …

I received a “VIP invitation” in the mail today – no doubt along with thousands of other folks that have visited Lime Rock; it directs you to this website where you can read:
Become a Member
The Club at Lime Rock Park has only 300 Memberships available … By becoming a Member you will have unprecedented access to the track with others of like mind and interest … Each Membership carries a one-time fee of One Hundred Ten Thousand Dollars ($110,000.00). This includes applicable State of Connecticut Dues Tax of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00)

And yes, I would have to wear a helmet!
We have made an arrangement with our on-premises store Driving Impressions, a high-quality Motorsports supplier, to give you significant discounts on driving gear. In addition, The Club will give you a $1,000 credit at Driving Impressions in case you need to pick up a helmet or driving suit or, if you wish, you may apply the credit to The Club’s annual dues

Hmmm … maybe there’s something else to spend my $110,000 on, instead! Any ideas? 😉

  1. Better come with a garage spot!

On the other hand, alot of these tracks are trying to become more like golf course country clubs. VIR is a prime example with a hotel, a restaurant, garages, and a pool for the kids and wife while your out having fun on the track.

  2. They’ve been “building” that one, Josh, since I had a MINI – I’m unconvinced it will ever come to fruition! At least Lime Rock exists already

  3. I’m thinking that would just cover your speaker installation and music for the year. Hum, maybe some roof graphics for the GP as you really haven’t Ianized it yet.

  4. What would I do with $110K spare change?
    1. Expand the current garage.
    2. Buy a pristine 1960’s Moke
    3. Buy a pristine 1960’s Cooper S
    4. Buy a pristine 1960’s Traveler with wood trim.
    5. Buy a good condition 1970’s Clubman Saloon
    6. Buy a good condition 1970’s Clubman Estate
Whoops! I might have run out of money already…
but IF I had some left…
    Buy a 1960’s Mini Pickup
    and I have a list of 30 or 40 more models…
    Guess I just like Minis!

  5. Wow… with $30million coming in, they’d better resurface the whole track..!!

  6. http://www.limerockclub.com/media/pr_07_07_07.asp

The membership cost at The Club at Lime Rock Park is $100,000 and the length of membership is 50 years. Membership can be passed down in the family or resold through The Club.

The membership dollars will be used to improve the entire Park. This is a way to guarantee that all improvements on the “wish list” will happen – everything from repaving the track to new bathrooms, an updated Media Center/Clubhouse and a larger and more efficient entrance, to name a few.

For some “average Joe” track driver thoughts on this:

  7. That’s an expensive one. Auto Country Clubs are growing all over the country. There is at least one here outside of Chicago, but they I think are more like $25,000 to start and $5,000 a year, but it does go up depending on if you want garage space and other “features”.

In general, I think it’s a great concept, but the $110,000 seems a bit steep and clearly is only for those with obnoxious budgets. Overall for that money, you could keep your GP and spend the remaining money on attorneys and traffic court citations and increased insurance rates. You would still have quite a bit of money left over and get to drive your GP on so many different roads. 🙂

  8. The funny part about people mentioning garage space is that Lime Rock doesn’t have garages. Or even a paved paddock.
