MotoringFile down

As noted by Joe …

MFsuspended.jpg

Let’s hope it’s just a temporary glitch; Don Burnside’s website has more details:
Unfortunately MotoringFile is currently down due to our host having shut down the server the site happens to reside on.
Twinshosting (who we rent server space from) is having attacks and they’ve somehow traced it to the server MF happens to be on (with other sites). They’ve now shut-down the server and are investigating with no time-table given

This sounds a lot like the behaviour I had with Site5 a month ago, which forced me to move hosting companies … the problem for me was specific comment-spam attacks from just two IP addresses; none of the comment-spam got through but attempts continued anyway and were responsible for more than half of all web access. Of course Site5 could have simply blocked the rogue IP, but instead chose to shut down my site. Has TwinsHosting done the same to MotoringFile?

  1. Thanks for the post Ian. As it turns out the site was simply too much for their system to handle. I find it odd that they initially blamed it on some sort of attack. Great customer service.

Anyway it’ll be back up in a few hours with a new host.

Many more photos of the new car coming this weekend btw 🙂

  2. Seems very short sighted of hosting companies to close accounts if you can trace the attacks to specific IP addresses. I guess they don’t have a shortage of customers, so are quite happy to let the ‘problem’ ones go – kind of like Sprint closing those accounts of the people who contacted customer service too often just as the iPhone came out and people would have been looking for a way out of their contracts..!

Look forward to MF being back up.
