GPMINI gets iced

What happens when you have two MINIs? One stays behind while the other gets driven. So GPMINI stayed at work this weekend, while I drove GPMINI#5 to see what Margaret thought (she prefers the R56 – there’s none of that loud “screaming” when I accelerate).
Over the weekend we had a mix of snow, rain, freezing rain and general not-nice weather … worse here in Essex than at home in Gloucester … poor GPMINI 😦

It’s hard to show just how thick the ice is, in a photo, but the ice handle should give you a clue; I partially chipped the ice off – it’s probably 1/4″ thick!

Side note: GPMINIs door opened with no problem (before chipping the ice); GBMINI#5 also had no issues with opening the doors in this mornings cold – apparently jammed doors are resolved these days 🙂

  1. Tough dilemna – not really. Hmmm… which MINI do I drive today? Good PROBLEM to have. 🙂

The ice is here in Chicago too. Actually had it a week ago as well – we were at a concert and left my wife’s car at her office. When we went to pick it up, the ice was so thick I actually broke the handle on the ice brush thingy (technical term).

The ice looks fantastic on trees, etc when it’s sunny outside. But it is so NOT fun to drive in or deal with.

  2. Well this is not meant to be abusive but I’ll skip the whole “StarBucks Iced MINI” thingy, Thank You Very Much!

Just to show you how big a Pussycat I am.. it was 35 here last night, in SoCal, thought I would die! I think 28 is the lowest I have ever experienced and I didn’t like that very much even though Telluride is beautiful!

Ian, I thought you had bought some fancyass MINI cover? Maybe George could loan you one of his car mummy things.

  3. My GP car cover has never been used – I’d only use it if I wasn’t driving GPMINI for a long-ish while (and I am driving it tonight, for example!)

  4. Two MINIs and no garage… what a dilemma..!

Could you put a temporary structure on your parking pad, either at home or at work..? Do those arched temporary garages count as a building..?

Or buy a trailer and park that on the pad and put the car inside…! I certainly wouldn’t use a fabric cover outside in a New England winter… the paint would be ruined in the spring.

  5. I think I saw her frozen tear in one of the pixs. She’s little, can’t you get her inside the office?

Will you be splitting your time between both cars or use the R56 more in the winter?

  6. Robert – many people don’t give a website link.

George – I’ll surely be alternating between the two cars; but in the winter I might bias the R56 … driving home last night in GPMINI I really missed the extra visibility of the Xenon headlights! And to my shock, I miss the auto a/c.
