Since getting GBMINI#6 back in January, things have always seemed to work against me getting her washed; cold winter weather, weekend trips to Florida, heavy rain … she’s been washed a few times by MINI of Peabody, but finally this past weekend there was no excuse (apart from waiting till the sun dropped behind trees, to avoid the water boiling off – we’ve had an early summer with temps around 90!)
Drying the top is tricky, maybe it’s best just to leave it to dry on it’s own!
How to wash and dry a car without spots if you don’t have a garage or don’t want water inside your nice garage? The local Job Lot store had 12′ x 12′ pop up canopys on sale for $80 a few years back. I set mine up in the hot sun and put the car under it, letting the shade cool it off for an hour or so. Then wash and dry the car under the canopy. It also works well for a BBQ, but unless it is a car event, why bother? 🙂

So Ian, while washing did you notice any wear to the top? UKPYLOT out here in SoCal seems to be quite upset at the wear that his seems to be showing at 61,000.
Do you have all the kool washing/waxing stuff like special washing detergents, washing mitts, clay bars, micro fiber drying towels and window cleaning cloths and so on? The folks out here in SCMM, the MINI club to which I belong, all seem to think Adams waxes and washing stuff is the best. I use Griot’s myself and find their products work well although expensive, their micro fiber drying towel is amazing.
There are some creases on the roof – but remember GBMINI#6 only has 10K miles on it.
I also noticed that Margarets previous soft top (Audi) had creases and marks on it, and it cost double the MINIs price.
She’s looking good! Did GP get a bath as well?
Yes, GPMINI got washed last night – although sadly the tree blossom and other general crud has left enough mark that she’ll need to get a full detailing somewhere …
Still, she looks wonderful 🙂
