I’ve previously taken a picture of the Convertible’s roof patterns with dew on, back in July, and this morning the patterns returned – but this time it was ice crystals instead of water droplets!

So do we know why this pattern forms?
Not precisely, but you can see on this internal image of the roof that there’s a criss-cross structure called the “front brace”.
My guess is that where the solid structure touches the roof, the rate of temperature change is slowed due to the mass of the plastic underneath – so the frost forms only where there is no bracing.
Ian, the drawing of the roof structure and sensors… what document was it from? I haven’t seen MINI documentation using that style of illustration. – Richard
It’s cropped from internal documents that you can download if you buy access at http://www.minitis.com
But you can get a pretty similar image from RealOEM!
Interesting. I am familiar with the line drawings on RealOEM, and I have copies of the WDS (wiring) and TIS (repair) e-manuals from BMW, but this drawing is in a completely different style. What extra material does minitis.com have beyond the TIS and WDS?
BTW, have you given any thought to 1-touch cabrio functions? The possible operations are roof up, roof down, and all-windows up (all-windows down is already standard).
