A while ago, MINI owner Jason posted some links to interesting MINI E websites – some of the linked websites are really interesting (Robert for example), discussing the pros & cons and decision process of going forward with spending $850/month PLUS lots of costs to set up wiring to charge the vehicle, balanced with the anticipated fun of driving an all-electric MINI. I recommend you head over to Jason’s website and spend some time reading the linked MINI E websites π
Recently, once-excellent MINI site MotoringFile posted something on the MINI E; not as interesting – and apparently now any comments such as the one I attempted to post, that (horror!) include a link, are simply banned. Oh well, I guess there’s not so much over there for me to read and comment on anyway, since GPMINI isn’t an R56 or a BMW!
You’ve got to be kidding me Ian. We’ve never banned or deleted a comment of yours (unless for someone reason it was derogatory to someone). And why would we? Obviously our automated spam software is pretty aggressive and can grab some legit comments (especially those with links) but that should be well known to anyone with a highly visible site.
Our MINI E coverage is rather limited because… we don’t have one. DB or I don’t live in NYC or LA so it’s pretty cut and dry. MINI is looking at ways to get me into one for a week but that won’t happen for at least a couple of months. Obviously we’re not going to review something we don’t have experience with. And since we’ve already reported on the owner events in NYC and LA I’m not sure what the point would be to re-report on them. We’ll certainly be posting some owner impressions and we’ve already been in contact with some of them – but again we can’t do anything until we get that information.
Gabe, I don’t want this to get too far off topic, but there is definitely something strange about MotoringFile’s filters. Since the second half of last year (but not previously), each and every one of my comments has been flagged for moderation. Most contained no links or any words that should be noteworthy for filtering. DB thought my IP address range might be flagged, so I tried from home, work, and mobile. I also tried from different computers and browsers, and also with different name and e-mail. None of it mattered — every single comment still went into moderation. I’m really baffled about what other parameter I could change when some others don’t seem to have the issue at all. I’ve pretty much stopped commenting on MotoringFile because by the time a comment gets approved it has fallen way back in the queue and the discussion already drifted in another direction.
I just found one of of Ian’s comments in our askmet filtering database. The culprit the url of the link for some reason. Finding it in there among the 10,000+ spam comments we get weekly isn’t easy btw. RKW – I flagged your user to be approved every time. There should be no other issues. Give me a shout if it happens again.
WOW… It’s a shoot out at the plantation, as Leon might say….. I love it.
Ya know for that kind of money you could get one heck of a car. That’s just criminal of MINI to charge that much and just stupid of anyone to drive that tank. Is it because some think it’s the answer to our energy or global warming problems? Neither of which this thing will answer. If you put a million of these things, meaning electric cars, on the already over loaded electric grid it would simply blow up! Here in LA recently we had a run of high temps so everyone used their AC and wham no power for 8 hours! Don’t even get me started on what to do with the used batteries. All Bad.
Hey thanks for referring to my site, that’s cool of you! While I haven’t driven an official MINI e, I have driven an electric MINI that was built at Hybrid Technologies in Mooresville, NC (http://www.hybridtechnologies.com/products/cars/flash). I found it surprisingly punchy from 0 to about 25mph. After that the power really flattened out. Talk about going from go-cart to golf-cart!
I think the fact that the MINI e has such a high cost but people are still doing everything they can to get one shows how crazy about MINIs some of us are!
