(and yes, I spelt braking that way deliberately)
So it turns out that today’s driving was far far longer than the 100-120 miles we anticipated, to get to the hotel! Nice views, though. When we arrived at Cherokee, NC (little more than a Casino and some sad touristy shops), we thought that the Tail Of The Dragon was only a few miles from where we were – so why not visit and drive it, since we’re this close?
Well, turns out Google Maps was wrong and it was 60+ miles away, but we went anyway; and yes, we drove it … at a sensible 30mph+/-, often limited by vehicles in front so easy to keep to the speed limit – and even more easy when the rains came POURING down!
But by the time we reached the end, there was NO WAY that Margaret was going to let me drive back – so we had to go “the long way round”, which is some 80 miles and 2+ hours of traffic laden driving, including the misery of driving through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg (what awful places!); so really quite tired by the time we got back to the hotel!
But now Margaret & I both have travelled the Dragon, with Tshirts to “prove” it – and with luck, KillBoy or one of the other photo companies on the Dragon (US 129 Photos, Zee Fotos) will have captured GPMINI 🙂
I see ya caught up with your biker buddies… how did that go? Beautiful scenery for sure… how does it compare with US 1 here in Ca?
What’s wrong with Pigeon Forge? Did ya see the Dolly’s… ah, you know? I love all that kitschy type souvenir stuff. It so tasteless it’s neat.
I thought your were going to meet up with GP George?
GPMINI is captured here on the Dragon 🙂

GP George is going to MINIsOnTop; I don’t expect to see him before then.
