We spent much of today visiting the Avian Reconditioning Center, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing injured Raptors – including my favourite owls; the center cannot show any birds that will be returned to the wild when recovered, but they have sadly too many birds that have been foolishly kept as pets, or have been injured to an extent that they cannot be released.
So our first photographs were of Gordon, a Great Horned Owl, quite beautiful:
Others included a Barred Owl, Barn Owl, and a tiny (but fully grown) Eastern Screech Owl (it lost an eye when young, but is well cared for now). As well as the Owls, there were various Hawks, and even a couple of Bald Eagles!
We were treated to various flying demonstrations, including a pair of Harris Hawks, aggressive enough that every other bird had to be put away first!
