Black Knight’s first wash

I finally got “brave” enough to give my new MINI a wash – after only a couple hundred miles so far, and garaged, she’s not very dirty; but it was time anyway. Washing the frozen paint was easy enough – MINI advises to use their own car shampoo, and of course not polish! They also ban micro-fiber cloths, but I had a pseudo chamois for drying.
Sadly, the dried paint shows a number of water spots:

Looking back through my earlier pictures, there were similar water spots even when it was delivered; I’m going to have to figure out a way to remove them, and avoid them in future.

  1. You can always do a final rinse with filtered water like I used to do with the Mr. Clean Auto Dry, then wipe down to a film. I can’t imagine a good waffle weave microfiber would have a problem drying the finish, otherwise I previously used an Absorber PVA cloth (just be careful of dragging dirt and scratching).

  2. Thanks, Josh – but I did the whole wash with Mr Clean. Though admitted some spots might have been from before the wash

  3. Gads. More evidence I’d never buy a matte finish anything. Going to have my matte finish Sparco rims power coated red as soon as I get back from europe in June.

    I see a repaint coming for Ian…?
