The one really bad design of our new Lennar Brandywine home, is the stair rails! Because there’s a turn near the bottom with a wider-but-not-landing stair, and a permit failure from Orange County inspectors back when we were closing on our purchase, Lennar did a really ugly job of making a jagged stair rail; the rest of the rail design is ugly too – see how the lower angled rail buts in to the large vertical pillar at strange angles!
So now, finally, we got a local company to replace it all with a much better design. Perhaps it’s not “to code” any more, but it works fine and looks much better!
Old on left, new on right:
And yes, there’s more painting to do, now …
So why wouldn’t the new one be up to code? It’s definitely a better looker.
Inspection would probably fail because there’s a gap of a few inches with no handrail, on the wall side.
Bacause they don’t consider the larger stair at the turn, as a landing, then they require a rail.
