After a lot more driving yesterday afternoon we got back to Virginia, and this morning headed to Harpers Ferry (back in West Virginia!); there’s very little parking so we were encouraged to park at the nearby visitor center and take the (quick) shuttle bus.
The town is a mix of history and historic buildings, and tourist trap stores! It also has the Appalachian Trail running through it and crossing an old rail bridge – so we can claim to have “walked the Appalachian Trail in two states” since the river crossing is also the state line!
We also walked up a challengingly steep hillside to Jefferson Rock which is supposed to give good views but not really worth the climb!
