The big rock

Margaret wanted to plant a Buddleia in the garden, but found a rock below the soil surface … she worked to dig around it, find it’s edges, and planned to pull it out – but the rock kept getting bigger! Margaret got me to come and help, and many more hours were spent – we had to remove a “smaller” rock to get at this one; that smaller one took us 3/4 hour to remove, and was almost impossible to lift! This bigger rock might have been as big as a car for all we could tell … it’s still there now!

After these pictures, we re-buried the rock; we put that “smaller” one on top as a feature, and planted the Buddleia behind! Hope it likes it there 🙂

Spring comes early

After taking a picture every day last year, I have a “weather photo calendar”, so it’s interesting to compare 2010 with 2009. It’s felt like Spring is early this year, especially with the 88 degrees day (!) we had a few days ago; we restored the pump to the pond today, and coincidentally did it at the same time last year, but I should have done the pond last weekend (though we were away).

The plants definitely are further on this year – the Forsythia have opened and finished, while last year they were just opening; and compare Daffodils this year, with those from a week later last year
