White grass

This happens almost never here in New England, compared with often through winter in “old” England – frost on the grass (actually frost on everything, but this is a grass picture!):

The pond had no ice on it, but a puddle on top of the filter barrel was iced over … a sign of things to come!

Pond cleaning

Today’s weather was super for mid November, Sunny and up in to the mid 60s; so Margaret & I decided to prepare the pond for winter now that most of the leaves have fallen from the trees (just a few left on a couple of trees).
The pond had leaves floating on top, loads more leaves on the bottom, and the plants were still big and green:

We pulled the plants out, and Margaret cut them down to roots only, while I netted leaves out of the water, leaving it clean. Then we shut down the pump and installed the air bubbler …
