It got cold today!

This morning when we woke, the temperature was 29f (-1c), just below freezing. Although the sun was shining in a clear blue sky, the wind was howling from the north west (coming down from Canada) … it got progressively colder all day, and now at bedtime, it’s down to 17f (-8c!):

(the second number is the inside temperature, and the bar chart in the middle shows the continuously dropping outside temperature during the day)

It’s supposed to get a little colder still tonight, and not get up to freezing tomorrow either! See our local weather here

The first ice

I woke this morning and noticed that there was ice on the side of the waterfall at the pond – this is water that splashes up, and has frozen on the rocks and on the overhanging conifer. The fish, in water just above freezing, are cold and still, huddled together in the deepest part of the pond – where they’ll likely stay for 4+ months now, till spring!

I’ll be removing the pump pretty soon now!

“Bonus weather”

It might actually be late October and seriously into Autumn / Fall, but with high temperatures above 70 or even 80 these last few days, we’re enjoying every day!

I took some photos recently, to give a flavour of our weather at the moment. First – how about these Fall colors (trees on my route to work):

Or, last nights sunset:

At home, most trees have lost their leaves so are less pretty than on the way to work …

But with the warm weather, the fish are still keen and happy to eat:

However, cooler weather is coming (predicted high only about 50 on Thursday), so soon our “bonus weather” will be gone.
