Torcal de Antequera

While staying in Antequera we read about an amazing geological area nearby with fantastic rock formations, called  El Torcal de Antequera – and we had to go visit! It’s much higher than the town so another climbing drive (though not narrow this time); visitors arrive at parking then can choose the “easier” or “harder” hike but even before arriving the scenery is amazing:

We choose the “easier” hike and it was still very challenging for us with a lot of climbing (and going down again!) often with narrow or slippery paths; the views however were worth the effort (and we even located an ammonite fossil that Google Maps pointed us to!):

Antequera

We recently took a trip to Spain to visit my Mum, and stayed in the old town of Antequera, built against a hill with very narrow and winding roads! Our AirBnB turned out to be at the top of the hill with a challenging drive when we arrived late in the evening – but giving us great views the next morning (and in the evening, last two photos in this block):

We also walked down the hill (and back up!), getting lunch and admiring the old buildings, here’s a few more views (the last photo here is looking back up the steep roads and stairs, to where we were staying near the castle wall):

It’s a beautiful town, but if you want to visit then make sure you hire a small car!
