Today we drove to the “headwaters of the Mississippi”, where the river begins its long journey – and where the flow is small enough that people play in the water, and cross it over stepping stones or a log! We did both, of course:

Another stop to break up the long drive, we visited the externally unusual North Dakota State Capitol, learning that as it was built during the depression they cut costs externally (no dome, like many Capitols) but still made it beautiful inside:











Having reached the north-east end of our vacation, we began the long drive back towards Minneapolis but of course with some more visits on the way. Our first detour today was to the Enchanted Highway, a thirty mile road with huge sculptures (and a maze!) at intervals along it (of course a 60 mile detour there and back!); amazing art and well worth the diversion!
