PERU 2025: Cusco day three

Today, our last full day of the tour, we visited Inca ruins at Tipon which have a lot of working water courses / irrigation canals, and water “fountains”; very beautiful!

Here’s a couple videos of flowing water, also:

On the way back to our hotel we stopped to get an overview of Cusco:

After lunch we visited the fabulous giant stones at Saqsaywaman which in some ways is more impressive than Machu Picchu due to the enormous size of the stones which even so have been precision cut one to another!

We finished the day with a group dinner …

PERU 2025: Cusco day two

Today was “A Day In The Life”, it began with a visit to a local Farmers Market, quite different to what we are used to in Winter Garden! So much fresh produce, so many choices – and so inexpensive. I skipped photographing most of the meat but believe me there was a lot of those choices too!

We next traveled a bit further from the city center where we rode “moto taxis” (tuk tuks?), visited a local family and shared their fabulous baked potatoes, and visited a school – and once more we stumbled on a local festival!

PERU 2025: Cusco day one

Today we got the train from Aquas Calientes back to Ollantaytambo then a couple hours coach back to Cusco, with views along the way. Apparently we arrived in Cusco during a week of festivals with our hotel right in the center of the city – so exciting but busy!

From our hotel we walked to Qorikancha, an Inca “temple of the Sun” but with a Spanish church rudely dumped on top of it! Luckily some of the original walls remain …

Artwork and interpretations in the temple hint at Inca meanings of their sky views:

Returning to the hotel we again passed festival celebrations:
