… I pass this little shopping square on the way to work every day (“Highwave” is where I get my hair cut) – this view of snow piled up (plowed from the parking lot) is repeated all over the place, at least until the weather is warm enough to get some melting:

Slippery & Icy
Yesterdays snow storm changed over to rain late in the day, leaving everything wet – then overnight temperatures dropped back below freezing, and this morning everything was treacherously slippery! The roads were OK, gritted, but footpaths between house & car, and car & office, were dangerous 😦

Also today, our favorite local TV morning news channel reported that we’ve already had more than a season’s average snow! The average for Boston is 43.8″, and we’ve had 49″ so far this year – last year we had 52″ total, but we’ve still got a couple months to go this year …
With thanks to Cindy Fitzgibbon, here’s the greatest snowfall totals for Boston (since 1920):
#1 1995-1996 107.6″
#2 1993-1994 96.3″
#3 1947-1948 89.2″
#4 2004-2005 86.6″
#5 1977-1978 85.1″
128 detour
I took Margaret to work in Salem in this mornings (yet another) snow storm – her car was being serviced – and we passed this car; the owner had apparently tried to make their own exit from highway 128 (which is the “inner Boston ring road”, the primary way to get from Gloucester to basically anywhere!):

(I think the driver was fine; the car was cleared by the time I passed back on the way to my work)
