Although our temperatures are still cold, well below freezing, the strong sun melts the snow & ice every day, leading to re-freezing later! This can be pretty, or pretty treacherous! An impressive icicle, but much less impressive slippery ice-covered paths!
The “Ice Mountain”
The cold weather has now succeeded in closing the ice hole on our pond, creating instead an “ice mountain” where the water kept splashing up and freezing! The rest of the pond of course is frozen too, including the waterfall. Margaret went down on the ice to re-melt open the bubbler hole with hot water – we’ll see how long it can stay open this time!
