England 2023: Alnwick Gardens

While we had visited Alnwick back when we lived in Newcastle, Alnwick Gardens has been created since we emigrated, and when I heard about the “poison garden” there, I wanted to visit … and we discovered lots of beautiful water features there, too!

The poison garden has various dangerous plants (some have to be eaten while some cause extreme skin reactions so should not even be touched! Many are in cages for our protection) …

England 2023: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Our first trip to England since 2018 (our 2020 trip was canceled for obvious reasons!), and it didn’t go as well as we would want – British Airways canceled our flight from London to Newcastle (replacing it with train tickets and a massive lack of communications!), then didn’t provide our luggage (Margaret’s eventually was returned to Florida even while we were still in England!) … we also both got quite sick the second week 😦

But we had some nice times still, visiting friends and family and places – we spent the first few days in Newcastle staying at Malmaison right on the quayside for beautiful bridge views, and we also spent one morning walking the streets up as far as Grey’s Monument and Haymarket. Here are lots of photos …

While in Newcastle we also took an interesting tour of the Newcastle United stadium St James Park, getting views from the highest seats right down to grass side where Eddie Howe sits during games!

Hot cats

Summertime in Florida means daytime high temperatures in the 90s – it’s 94f / 35c right now (2pm) and that’s too hot for our cats. They go outside first thing in the morning when it’s still below 80f / 27c, and then come in once it’s too hot, until the evening … so right now all three are sleeping indoors.

And sometimes it’s still too hot, so in that case it’s best to stick a leg out!
