Goat feeding at Oak Aged Farm

We spent a wonderful, cute and sometimes hilarious evening petting and feeding baby goats (and bigger ones too) and we’d do it again for sure! It’s a ticketed event with occasional dates through the early summer, and be sure to purchase both entry and the feed bottles if you want the best experience.

There were about 30 people at the event, and the young goats arrived in a crazy fast flood, leaping on to tables and trying to grab the milk bottles – after a short while things calmed down a little as goats and feeders got together. After that initial burst of activity we were all allowed to hang around for up to an hour, petting the goats, even picking them up, feeding them with grass pellets, taking photos … a wonderful evening.

Here’s a video taste of the fun we had:

And here are lots of cute photos!

Midway Airboat ride

After our hot wetlands walk yesterday we also took an airboat ride on the St Johns river. This trip by Midway had a great commentary from the boat captain with impressive sound quality from the headphones that also silenced the noise from the engine. We again saw lots of birds (including my favorite sandhill cranes) but we also saw some cows(!) grazing in the shallow river water, and a bunch of baby alligators … at the end of the trip everyone got a chance to hold a pretty big small alligator (the skin in much softer than I expected, and unlike a warm blooded animal, it feels cool!):
