I spent the morning at Sublime Restorations, where GBMINI#3 had been prepared by Julian to have the “S” design on the roof reworked by Scott (from Thin Air Grafx).
Scott began by masking off the main “S” design, and airbrushing overspraying the “streaks” to make them softer and closer to the original design concept; once this was finished, Scott removed the mask and worked on the edges of the “S”, to mostly remove where the original “streaks” had overlapped. The finished design is much closer to what I had hoped to see, and should look good when clearcoated next week:
Ian, looks smart! Hope you’re pleased with it now, too. I’ll be interested to see how it in person.
What DLs are you going w/? MINI, or aftermarket?
Chris
Thanks Chris – yes I think it looks much better and more like what I originally imagined; I look forward to seeing it clearcoated and finished.
I will get MINI driving lights – they just look so “right” to me 🙂
It looks great, I hope you’re happy with it this time. I agree the fading does look better. Did they convince you not to go diagonally? Why is the wait so long to clearcoat it? The stripe sample looks great. Unfortunately I guess I won’t be the only one with painted stripes anymore. 🙂
Josh,
I think the clearcoating will be done today – but then they need to do the bonnet stripes, involving major disassembly, sanding, painting, more clearcoating, etc.
Any reason why the left side of the car is raised in the top picture? Easier reach of the painter, maybe?
Much nicer!

Yes, exactly that reason. Sometimes it was jacked the other way, but I did not catch any of those pictures.
