Another great day provided by MINI of Peabody – though it looked not so great to start, with overnight rain! But it stopped by about 9am, leaving a usefully wet parking lot for the auto-cross!
As the day continued, the clouds melted away and the sun came out strong, giving us mid 60s (warm enough to drop the top!) – and lots of friendly MINI owners chatting, and having fun on the auto-cross course (which they set up for the whole day).
I spent the day chatting with friends, and taking pictures …
A great day, made even better by the surprising weather – thanks to everyone at MINI of Peabody for putting it all together again π
Thanks for taking those pics! They are great. It was so nice to see you and everyone again. MoP always puts on a great event, and thanks to the BMW crew for a great day. The weather couldn’t have been MORE perfect (after the ride up, at least. π
The media gallery on the MoP site is worth visiting as well. I was in the middle of a two day battle with a splitting headache, so I was less social than I might have otherwise been (the headache did go away completely for 20s at a time though).
Since you posted here, Jess, I’m curious about the driver/car combo that took FTD (congratulations). Which club do you run events with? Is “Solace” prepared to the rules of a particular class? I have a photo of one of your runs (courtesy of Ian) in an album on my Facebook page. I’ll try to tag you with a link to “momelettes”.
Hi Chris!
Bummer about the headache… whipping around cones isn’t exactly helpful either, but the adrenaline would probably take it away!
I drive with BMWCCA, the same folks that were organizing the event. I used to drive with SCCA, but switched to BMW because the events are smaller and you get 8 runs a day vs. SCCA’s 3 runs. Both groups have their ups and downs. With BMW, you get lots more seat time. With SCCA, there is more variety of cars to admire and it’s first and foremost a competition, so they really push you to do your very best.
However, in both cases, the event leaders and instructors are top notch and extremely willing to help out. They are all friendly and approachable.
Eloise (my MINI) with SCCA runs in STX class. Among other mods, she has a 15% reduced supercharger pulley, which puts her in the top class. Which means I am WAY outclassed and not very competetive there, LOL! In BMWCCA, she runs in class “A” or “B”, I can’t remember which, but it’s a great class to be competitive in. She runs alongside the BMW 135i that was there on Sunday.
I’m on Faceboook, a tag would be great! Feel free to drop me an email to talk about MINIs any day! jess@momelettes.com. The site for autox is boston-bmwcca.org, I can answer any questions you have about that, too. Hopefully I’ll see you there next April? π
