Mesa Verde and rain

Today we drove from our hotel to Mesa Verde and back, close to 200 miles in total – another spectacular scenery day well documented over on MargaretAndIan, but here we have a few GP-related bonus highlights:

GPMINI on Mesa Verde – and look at the Mesa Verde roads, very excellent!

Our first rain while driving, since we flew out to Los Angeles almost two weeks ago; but rain can bring a rainbow!

Denver to Durango, the long way

Today we headed out from Denver to Durango, initially heading down US 285 South from Denver – a bit of a pain due to the road being single lane each way, but with passing places that enabled us to get ahead eventually of the cars that insisted on doing 40 on a 60 limit, and slowing to 20 around curves! A nice road though with great scenery …

Talking with Jim McDowell this morning, he’d said to be sure and drive through Ouray, and we realized that to do that we needed to switch routes – so we changed to US 50 and headed west over to US 550 – definitely great advice, as the road through Ouray and on to Durango is incredible!

MTTS bonus: Driving the Countryman

Huge thanks go to Jim McDowell (and Patty) for arranging for both Margaret and I to test drive the new Countryman this morning 🙂

We had a chance to test drive an all-wheel-drive S model, though the all-wheel part didn’t have much function driving around Denver!

We were definitely driving a MINI! Yes, it didn’t have the performance of my GP, but it responded like a MINI, felt like a MINI, and looked like a MINI. But, with lots more space and comfort inside; very nice …
