Seven States: Montgomery, AL

Back to Alabama and visiting the historically important Montgomery, where we first visited the Rosa Parks Museum. A “time machine bus” presentation did a good job of educating on the history up to the time when [activist] Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat [which we also learned wasn’t even a requirement by law, only by the driver!], followed by a walk-through presentation of the following year which eventually resulted in the end of legal segregation (but of course not full equality).

Seven States: Eufaula, AL

We recently took a driving trip from Florida, staying overnight in seven states to “tick them off” the list (we’ve stayed in nearly 40 of the 50 states now); our first stop after more than 350 miles of driving was a little town Eufaula in Alabama, reasonably close to our destination next morning. We stayed in a nice B&B and took a walk downtown which was sadly quite rundown other than Main St where we had dinner (we found a “Piggly Wiggly” too, famous as the first true self-service grocery store in USA, though not this specific location!) …
