This year we stayed close to Beamish museum rather than closer to Newcastle and so of course we decided to spend a day at Beamish museum! It’s a “living history” type museum with late 1800s / early 1900s theming of actual buildings either already on site, or re-located; there’s a couple of villages, a steam engine, coal mine, and more.

A photo in the hotel in York led us to a trip to Brimham Rocks for a beautiful walk among huge boulders, with fabulous Yorkshire Dales views!

Our England tour began with a stay in York, walking around the roman city walls, walking through the (narrow) shopping streets, and visiting York Minster. Like many English towns, York is compact and perfect for walking – and full of history!
