GBMINI#3 earns his stripes

Finally back driving GBMINI#3 again, instead of the rental car; Julian from Sublime Restorations called this afternoon, to say the new bonnet stripes were finished and GBMINI#3 was ready for pick-up. Hooray!

The “S” on the roof is of course now finished too, but no time to get another aerial shot yet, so here’s a night flash shot:

Painting Bonnet Stripes

I called Julian at Sublime Restorations this afternoon to check up on GBMINI#3 and he confirmed that the bonnet stripes were being painted … When I visited Saturday we agreed on the design, based on another mock-up panel he had done for me:

(I abandoned the original idea of chrome stripes due to the complexity and expense of reaching a reasonable result)

So with luck I will soon be driving GBMINI#3 again, and I can return the rental [yuk!]

Reworking the “S”

I spent the morning at Sublime Restorations, where GBMINI#3 had been prepared by Julian to have the “S” design on the roof reworked by Scott (from Thin Air Grafx).

Scott began by masking off the main “S” design, and airbrushing overspraying the “streaks” to make them softer and closer to the original design concept; once this was finished, Scott removed the mask and worked on the edges of the “S”, to mostly remove where the original “streaks” had overlapped. The finished design is much closer to what I had hoped to see, and should look good when clearcoated next week:
