We had a goal on this visit of walking as far as the north end of Central Park (we’ve previously only really visited the most southerly quarter); we did get further up but with the cold wet weather we still only got as far as the reservoir (we will have to return in warmer weather one day!). We did find an Alice In Wonderland sculpture we’ve not seen before …
We finished our first full day with a trip down to the World Trade Center area, taking the subway to the Oculus, visiting the 9/11 memorial, and then heading up to the 102nd floor of One World Trade Center to the observatory for dinner and fabulous skyline views!
This morning we walked north along the Hudson River to find the “High Line“, once an aerial railroad bringing goods into the city, and now a beautiful aerial walkway. On our way, we found “Little Island”, a walkable “sculpture” on the edge of the river, also beautiful!
Continuing on, we found the High Line and walked the full open length (part at the end wasn’t open, too early in the season!) … in places the old tracks are still present, and the whole walk is very nice and a change from the busy streets of New York City! We ended at Hudson Yards and “The Vessel“, a huge golden sculpture that was also closed …
